Here are some helpful links to help you in your search for better nutrition and health.

U.S. National Library of Medicine - This is the governments repository of all published medical research articles. You can search, like google, for keywords then it will return all the studies with that keyword. For example search for "glucosamine sulfate arthritis" and you'll see over 600 studies.  So if you read some product manufacture claim some new secret research has revealed.......  No matter how good it sounds, come here and try to verify it. If you can't find anything, I'd be very very suspicious.

Linus Pauling Institute - This is one of the premier nutritional research institutes in the world. Lots of great information on the latest science of food and supplementation. Again, if someone makes a claim, double check it here.

Council for Responsible NutritionThe Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), based in Washington, D.C., is the leading trade association representing dietary supplement manufacturers and ingredient suppliers. CRN companies produce a large portion of the dietary supplements marketed in the United States and globally. Our member companies manufacture popular national brands as well as the store brands marketed by major supermarkets, drug store and discount chains. These products also include those marketed through natural food stores and mainstream direct selling companies. In addition to complying with a host of federal and state regulations governing dietary supplements, our 70+ manufacturer and supplier members also agree to adhere to voluntary guidelines for manufacturing, marketing and CRN’s Code of Ethics.

USDA Nutrient Database - Want to know everything about any food? Well this is the site. You'll find all the vitamins, minerals, carbs, sugar, etc for just about every fruit, vegetable, meat, canned food, prepared food, and fast food.

USDA ORAC Report - Someone pitching you a wonder juice with an ORAC of 40,000! Before you buy, check this database to see how that really compares. What you have to also look at is what portion of the product is really that ingredient. It takes some digging, but some of the popular exotic juices are mainly apple, pear, etc. One in particular fruit was tested as a dehydrated powder.  A little misleading since it is very diluted with water and mixed with other juices in the final product.

Life Extension Foundation - This page lists links to many of their treatment protocols for a number of ailments and conditions. The information is solid and based on solid research - no hype. They do pitch their products quite a bit though. I personally do use some of their products my preferred supplier doesn't manufacture.

NutriSearch - NutriSeach publishes the Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements which has analyzed and ranked over 1,500 multivitamins available in North America and has ranked them from the best to the worst.  The site also offers some good nutrition news and special reports.  The Comparative Guide is sold at this site and you can find it on Amazon.com. You can find copies of the ranking pages for personal by clicking here to view them. On a personal note, I use the #1 rated product.

National Institute of Health - Office of Dietary SupplementsThe mission of US Governments ODS is to strengthen knowledge and understanding of dietary supplements by evaluating scientific information, stimulating and supporting research, disseminating research results, and educating the public to foster an enhanced quality of life and health for the U.S. population. This is a great site to do initial research into specific supplements, what each can treat, etc. There is also a fraud section which highlights how to separate the snake oil from the legitimate products.

Glycemic Index Foundation - If you're searching for the Glycemic Index of foods (How rapidly it causes the blood sugar to rise) this is the site to go to. It is based in Australia so many of the prepared foods are specific to Australia, but many foods are international as well as fruits, dairy, etc.

Sanoviv - Sanoviv is a leading edge alternative medicine institute just south of San Diego on the beach in Rosarito, Mexico. By operating here they can blend the best of western, Eastern, European, and alternative medicine and not be under the thumb of the FDA. For example the FDA only allows an oncologist to treat cancer with surgery, radiation, or chemo. There are many more options to treat many diseases and conditions that what the FDA will permit. (FDA is heavily funded and influenced by the pharmaceutical companies, so drugs are OK, vitamins, herbs, and minerals are not OK.

Physician's Desk Reference - Here is another way to spot a good high quality nutritional supplement.  The Physicians Desk Reference (PDR) is that big book on the doctors desk of all the prescription drugs. This is what they refer to to find out all they can about a drug.  There are a few supplements which are included in the PDR if they meet extremely high quality standards.  Like all things, the PDR is now going online, So go to this link below and search for your supplement. You need to search by the products name, not the company. Also if your supplement, like mine, consists of two different products (like Mega Antioxidants & Chelated Minerals) then search each one separately vs the name of the two.

Usana Health Sciences - USANA develops and manufactures high quality, pharmaceutical grade, nutritional and personal care products. Usana's products are the #1 rated nutritional supplement in North America, hundreds of Olympic medal winners and professional athletes trust their health to Usana. Usana's Sense personal care products are preservative free and do not contain any irritating ingredients. I personally use the Usana products. Most of the USANA supplements are listed in the Physician's Desk Reference referenced above.
